Police State Aid helps subsidize pension costs for local governments. A police department's authorized representative must submit Form PA‑1, Certification of Peace Officers, to the Department of Revenue by March 15 to avoid losing part or all of its aid for this year.
Police State Aid amounts are determined in late September and paid by Oct. 1 each year.

Form PA-1 is due March 15. We will notify each police department that has not submitted Form PA-1 by March 1. Our notice will remind the police department that it could lose all or part of its aid for the year if we do not receive the form by March 15.
Any police department that does not submit Form PA-1 by the deadline will have its Police State Aid reduced by 10% for each week or fraction of a week that the form is late.
Online submission is required for this form. Please be sure to use the Form PA-1 Instructions below to fill out and submit your form.
Form PA-1
The 2023 Legislature made several changes to Police State Aid.
There are no changes to:
- How aid is calculated
- The deadline for submitting Form PA-1 (March 15)
- When aid is paid (October 1)
The changes to Police State Aid are as follows:
- There is no longer a 10-day grace period after the March 15 deadline.
- The Property Tax Division is still a required to send a notice when we have not received your form. However, this notice will now be sent on March 1, two weeks before the deadline, rather than after the March 15 deadline.
- The required March 1 notice will be sent by email rather than mail starting in 2024.
- The reduction in aid for late filing is 10% per week or partial week instead of 5%.
- If your form is rejected to make changes or corrections, it must be submitted by March 15 or within 30 days of when it was rejected, whichever is later.
