Direct deposit is an easy, convenient, and secure way to get your refund. You can include your banking information on your tax return and get your refund deposited into your bank account. Direct deposit is available whether you file your return electronically or by mail.

Easy: When you file your return, enter your bank information. If you use a tax preparer, have the preparer do this as well. All you need is your bank routing number and account number.
Convenient: The money goes directly into your bank account. You do not have to worry about cashing a check at the bank.
Secure: It's the most secure way to get your refund. You do not have to worry about lost or stolen checks. The Minnesota Department of Revenue protects your bank account information.

Direct Deposit Limits for Income Tax and Property Tax Refunds [+]

We will only deposit up to five Minnesota income tax and five property tax refunds into a single bank account.

The limitation may affect families who deposit parents’ and children’s refunds into a family bank account. These families should make other deposit arrangements or expect to receive paper refund checks.

If an account or card entered on a tax return exceeds this limit, we will send the refund as a paper check. We will send you a letter if we make this change to your refund.
