Business Activity Changes

It is important to keep the Minnesota Department of Revenue updated with any changes to your business activity. Changes to your business activity may affect whether you are required to file and pay MinnesotaCare tax.

If you did not receive patient receipts last year

If you still provide (or plan to provide) health care services, but you did not receive any patient receipts last year, you must file your annual MinnesotaCare tax return. Report the actual gross receipts you received for the year on your return, even if that amount is zero.

If you no longer provide health care services

If you no longer provide health care services or receive any receipts subject to MinnesotaCare tax, you are no longer required to file a MinnesotaCare tax return and must close your MinnesotaCare tax account.

You can close your account using our online e-Services system. Log in to e-Services and select Close Account for your MinnesotaCare tax account. Complete the remaining steps as directed.

You may also contact us at 651-282-5533 or MinnesotaCare.tax@state.mn.us to close your account. We will need the following information:

  • Minnesota Tax ID Number
  • Contact information
  • Account end date
  • Reason for closing the account
