ST. PAUL, Minn. - The Minnesota Department of Revenue is now accepting applications for the following Fiscal Year 2025 grants:

  • Volunteer Taxpayer Assistance Services Grant - $1 million
    • Available to eligible organizations who provide volunteer taxpayer assistance services to low-income, elderly, or disadvantaged Minnesotans.

  • Tax Credit Outreach Grant - $1 million
    • Available to eligible organizations who publicize and promote Minnesota tax credits to eligible taxpayers.

"The impacts of these grant funds can be felt across the entire state," said Revenue Commissioner Paul Marquart. "The organizations that receive these grants are essential to ensuring eligible taxpayers have access to free tax preparation assistance and claim all the tax benefits that are available to them."

Which organizations qualify for grant funds?

Grant funds are available to qualifying eligible organizations that:

  • Publicize and promote the availability of eligible Minnesota tax credits to taxpayers likely to be eligible for those credits.
  • Provide volunteer taxpayer assistance services to low-income, elderly, or disadvantaged Minnesotans. This includes:
    • Preparing and filing accurate tax returns.
    • Operating efficient volunteer tax preparation sites during the tax season and beyond.
    • Providing high quality training of volunteers and staff who administer and provide volunteer taxpayer assistance services.
    • Collaborating with other organizations to increase services across Minnesota.
    • Expanding services to better serve low-income, elderly, or disadvantaged Minnesotans.

Revenue prioritizes organizations that:

  • Open new in-person sites
  • Commit to expanding availability to Tribal reservations and rural areas greater than 50 miles from a current free tax preparation site
